What I've learned about myself in 2020: I'm a reader. A compulsive, desperate reader. clinging to books when the world feels like it's ending around me. I've coped with this year by surrounding myself in books - by becoming friends with booksellers, by organising bookclubs, but running mailbox book swaps all over the inner north. By hiding away in the endlessly comforting pages of books. I read a lot. A couple of books each week, sometimes more. Literary books mostly - novels, short stories and nature writing. I was trying to figure out some way of tying together the books I've listed below. They're mostly a bit sad, mostly a bit warm and all have blindingly vivid moments. Images crafted from words that have lodged in my brain and my heart forever. There's nothing better.
